"Self Control" is a vocal by Italian singer Raf, released in 1984. Information technology was written by Giancarlo Bigazzi, Steve Piccolo and Raf. Raf version [edit]

Raf, born as Raffaele Riefoli, co-wrote the song "Cocky Control" with Giancarlo Bigazzi and Steve Piccolo. His version of "Cocky Control" peaked at no. 1 in Italy.[4] It also notably edged into no. 1 in Switzerland between runs at the top spot by Laura Branigan'southward version of "Self Control", and peaked at no. 2 in Federal republic of germany, no. seven in Austria and at no. 40 in France.[five] [6] Raf released an extended dance mix of the song, like Branigan, but Raf's version featured a rap (performed past two other rap vocalists), relatively rare for a white artist at the time.

He would release several more tracks in English language and re-release his debut 1984 anthology Raf in 1987 under the championship Cocky Control, featuring two of these tracks. Branigan's first major hit had also been co-written by Bigazzi: "Gloria" (1982) was an English encompass of the 1979 original Italian vocal recorded by Umberto Tozzi. The following year Branigan recorded some other English song written over a Tozzi and Bigazzi song, "Mama", which was office of the 1983 album Branigan 2. Both the Raf original and the Branigan version of "Cocky Command" entered the German Top 20 in May 1984: on June 25, the Branigan unmarried assumed the no. one position, where it remained for six weeks, while the Raf version occupied the no. 2 spot.[xix] Branigan's "Cocky Control" also entered the Italian charts although the dominance of the Raf version in his native Italy predicated a comparatively depression height Italian chart meridian of no. 29 for Branigan's version.

"Cocky Command" afforded Laura Branigan a no. 1 hit in Republic of austria, Canada, Sweden[twenty] and South Africa[21] and was also a smash hit for Branigan in Norway (no. 2),[twenty] Ireland (no. iii),[22] Commonwealth of australia (no. iii) and the Britain (no. v).[23] Branigan'south album Self Control went Silverish, Gold or Platinum in several countries and yielded subsequent charting singles, though not of the championship track'southward magnitude, in "The Lucky I", "Ti Amo" and "Satisfaction".

Germany's and Switzerland's almost successful single of 1984 [edit]

Raf'due south version exceeded the success of Branigan'southward simply in his native Italy. The but other territory where Raf topped the charts was in Switzerland. Finally on the week of August 26, "Such a Shame" by Talk Talk moved Branigan out of the number one spot, though she would remain in the top five for another iii weeks. Branigan's record was in the Swiss height 30 for a total of sixteen weeks, including twelve weeks in the summit 5 and eight weeks at no. 1.[20] It was joined by her follow-up single, "The Lucky One (Like a Wild Bird of Pray)", equally it was erroneously subtitled in Europe, which charted in the top thirty for vii weeks.[24] Raf's version spent fourteen weeks in the pinnacle 30, including eight in the pinnacle five and one at number one.

Branigan's version of "Self Control" was featured on the Miami Vice episode "The Great McCarthy" and was featured in the fact-based 1989 TV movie The Preppie Murder and a 2007 episode of the series Common cold Instance. In 2002, the Branigan recording was used as a track on the fictional radio station Flash FM in the video game Yard Theft Auto: Vice Urban center, and it appears on the CD collection Grand Theft Auto: Vice Urban center Official Soundtrack Box Prepare, equally well equally numerous other hits collections.
